She caused the death of a 17-year-old: 'Blood money' allegations, father withdraws complaint!

Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, daughter of Kerem Kınık—who was the president of the Turkish Red Crescent at the time the organization sold tents during the February 6, 2023, earthquakes—caused the death of 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki in a traffic accident on July 9, 2024. Three other people were also injured in the accident.

According to expert reports, the driver Kınık Demir was found to be "primarily at fault." The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit against the young driver, seeking up to 15 years in prison for "causing death and injury by negligence."

4 YEARS AND 2 MONTHS SENTENCE, DRIVER'S LICENSE SUSPENDED

The court sentenced Kınık Demir to 4 years and 2 months in prison. Additionally, the driver was issued a travel ban, and her driver's license was suspended for two years.

However, the verdict did not satisfy the parties involved. Both the defendant Kınık Demir and Batın's mother, Hasret Doğan, have taken the case to the appellate court.

A notable development occurred just five days before the anniversary of Batın's death. The father, Serdal Barlasçeki, informed the court that he was no longer pressing charges against Kınık Demir. According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün, Barlasçeki wrote in his petition:

"I am withdrawing my complaint against the defendant Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir. I have no demands for any material or moral compensation from the defendant. I will not apply for an appeal, and I declare that I waive this right."

Batın Barlasçeki's mother, Hasret Doğan, did not withdraw her complaint. On the contrary, she alleged that the Kınık family had offered them "blood money."

Doğan had previously made the following statement:

"I die and come back to life every day. As if it weren't enough that these people tore my son away from life, they blamed him at every hearing. They even said, 'He couldn't hug his friend, that's why the accident happened.' Justice has still not been served. They are still going out together, having breakfast, and sharing family photos. Even though they destroyed my family..."
