Halil Konakçı loses '3-cent' lawsuit filed against Ümit Özdağ

Halil Konakçı, known for his provocative statements on social media, has lost the lawsuit he filed against Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ.

Making a statement regarding the matter on her X account, Zafer Party Deputy Chairman Attorney Sevdagül Tunçer stated, “Social media personality Halil Konakçı lost the non-pecuniary damages lawsuit he filed, demanding 3 cents, due to this tweet by our Chairman in the hearing held today. I present this to the public's information.”

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In a social media post, Halil Konakçı had said, “The majority of Hatay is Arab. We have Kurdish and Arab brothers there. It is still like that. It was like that back then too. It was under French occupation until 1938. There were debates about whether it should remain inside or outside the border. The ban on the call to prayer (ezan) came in 1932. The French did not ban the call to prayer in the Muslim villages and mosques in Hatay. In the center and villages of Hatay, which were still under French occupation, the call to prayer was recited as ‘Allahu Akbar’ until 1938. When Hatay joined Turkish territory in 1938, the first thing done was to ban the call to prayer. In other words, they committed oppression in these lands that the French did not.”

Ümit Özdağ, in reference to Konakçı’s post, had said, “By saying that the majority of Hatay, whose Turkishness was proven by referendum, is Arab, he is supporting claims that even the Ba'ath regime withdrew, and he is saying that it would have been better if Hatay had remained under the French so that the call to prayer could be recited in Arabic. Go tell this to the Algerians. And this man (if you can call him that), who is an enemy of the Turkish state and nation and who says that Prophet Muhammad will marry the Virgin Mary, is being protected by 5 police officers. Yet, what he deserves is to be tried in the Independence Tribunal.”

Halil Konakçı had filed a 3-cent non-pecuniary damages lawsuit in response to Özdağ’s post.
