Hearing for the Büyükçekmece case involving İmamoğlu moved to Silivri

The venue for the hearing in the Büyükçekmece case, in which 12 people including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu are being tried, has been changed. The hearing, which was planned to be held at the Büyükçekmece Courthouse, has been moved to the Marmara Penal Execution Institutions Campus in Silivri.

In the case file numbered 2026/113 at the Büyükçekmece 21st Criminal Court of First Instance, the hearing date was set for September 22, 2026, at 13:30. It was reported that the hearing will take place in courtroom No. 4 located within the campus.

In the court's interim decision dated September 11, it was stated that İmamoğlu's lawyer submitted a petition on September 9 conveying that his client wishes to present his defense in person and face-to-face at the hearing.

The decision took into account the high number of defendants and lawyers, as well as the potential crowd of those wishing to observe the hearing, in addition to İmamoğlu's request to attend. The court assessed that the physical capacity of the current courtroom might be insufficient.

It was reported that the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also informed the court with a letter dated September 11 regarding the request for a change of venue. The letter stated that, considering the number of parties in the case and the nature of the charges, courtroom No. 4 at the Marmara Penal Execution Institutions Campus could be used on September 22-23.
