Illegal migrant operation: 981 people apprehended

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that 31 migrant smuggling organizers, 9 of whom are foreign nationals, and 981 irregular migrants were apprehended during the "Kalkan-35" operations conducted nationwide yesterday.

In a post on his social media account, Yerlikaya provided information that 366,838 identity checks were performed during the inspections, in which 26,438 personnel took part.

Stating that a total of 15,250 locations were checked at 5,396 points by 8,412 teams as part of the effort, Minister Yerlikaya noted that 31 migrant smuggling organizers and 981 irregular migrants were apprehended in the operation.

Sharing footage of the operation, Yerlikaya stated, "Turkey presents an exemplary model to the whole world in migration management, respectful of human rights and freedoms, committed to the values of law and civilization, and never compromising on public order and security. We address the issue of migration in all its dimensions, including regular and irregular migration, international protection, voluntary, safe and dignified return, combating migrant smuggling, and border management."
