An interim ruling has been issued in the Saraçhane protests case involving 139 defendants, including Berkay Gezgin. The court decided to lift the international travel bans for all defendants. The court adjourned the trial until June 30 to allow for the testimony of 10 individuals who were unable to attend the hearing.
The 139 individuals who faced charges following the Saraçhane protests, which began with the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, appeared in court today.
The hearing for the defendants, none of whom are in custody but who are being tried on charges of "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations," was held at the Istanbul Courthouse 49th Criminal Court of First Instance.
Due to the crowded nature of the courtroom, the hearing was held in the 27th High Criminal Court hall.
The hearing, where the defendants and their lawyers were present, was also followed by many citizens, lawyers, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, and CHP Istanbul Women's Branch Chair Hatice Selli Dursun.
