Investigation continues into factory fire in Kayseri: Detention orders issued for 5 people

The investigation continues into the deaths of workers Mustafa Dirmen (54), Suzan Çakır (48), and İmran Oğuz Kayan (40), who lost their lives in a fire at a furniture factory in the Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone.

COURSE OF THE FIRE

The fire, which broke out yesterday afternoon at the factory located on 29th Street, grew rapidly and engulfed a section of the facility. The fire was brought under control after three hours of intensive work by fire, police, and medical teams dispatched to the scene. However, the three workers recovered from the factory could not be saved despite all interventions.

INVESTIGATION EXPANDS

Following the fire, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security appointed inspectors, while 5 people, including the factory's general manager, the occupational safety manager, and other officials responsible for the area where the fire broke out, were detained as part of the investigation conducted by the Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The suspects were referred to the Duty Magistrate's Court with a request for arrest following their statements.

DNA ANALYSIS FOR IDENTIFICATION

Samples taken from the bodies of the workers who lost their lives in the fire were sent to the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institute Group Presidency for identification and to determine the cause of death. Additionally, a special team from Ankara collected DNA samples from the relatives of the deceased workers.

While the investigation into the cause of the fire and allegations of negligence continues, the adequacy of occupational safety standards at the factory is also under review.
