Investigation launched into Deniz Göktaş

Journalist İsmail Saymaz stated that he received information that an investigation has been launched into comedian Deniz Göktaş, who recently made headlines with his latest stand-up show released on YouTube.

Sharing the news that proceedings have been initiated against Göktaş on allegations of "insulting religious values," Saymaz used the following expressions:

"Other than this, I have no information about any further developments. I hope it remains just an investigation and is closed. Because we should not enter a period in Turkey where even humor cannot be performed and even a stand-up comedian cannot express themselves freely."

HE HAD BEEN TARGETED AFTER THE "ÖLÜ DENİZ" SHOW

Deniz Göktaş had become a target for pro-government and reactionary circles after releasing his stand-up show "Ölü Deniz," which contains political references and was performed in Harbiye, on YouTube.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

According to the information obtained, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Göktaş on the charge of 'insulting religious values.'

HE HAD DENIED CLAIMS THAT HE FLED ABROAD

Responding to claims that surfaced on social media after the show that he had "fled abroad," Göktaş had announced that he was abroad for vacation purposes and would return to Turkey.

In his statement, Göktaş had used the following expressions:

"Hello, just as I dreamed all year, as soon as my tour and editing were finished, I came on vacation to be with my friends with 3 t-shirts and 3 pairs of boxers. I don't know if it's a shameful thing for me to travel, but those who share it like intelligence news would also see that I paid a large fee for paid military service on June 22; I will be in the country for many years :) If there is a situation that requires me to be in Turkey, I will return on the first flight; the number of t-shirts is the only challenge."
