It has emerged that fugitive İslam Yakut escaped from prison with permission for university enrollment

New details have emerged regarding the escape process of İslam Yakut, who had been reported as a fugitive since 2017, following his capture. Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek had announced that Yakut was caught and taken into custody in Istanbul.

It was reported that Yakut, who was captured through the efforts of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and the Istanbul Narcotics Crimes Division, had left prison with permission granted for the purpose of university enrollment.

It was learned that Yakut took the university entrance exam in 2017 and was accepted into a university's Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture with a 50 percent scholarship. It is alleged that Yakut escaped by failing to return to prison after being released on leave for registration procedures.

LINKED TO TWO TONS OF NARCOTICS

Within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that Yakut gave instructions to organization members via encrypted communication systems called ANOM and SKY ECC. It was stated that the organization is linked to a total of 2 tons of narcotics seized in Turkey and European countries.

It was noted that Yakut, known in the criminal underworld as the "Ghost Baron," was also among the fugitives sought during the "Kuyu" (Well) operations conducted in 2024.
