Mansur Yavaş speaks out on Murat Ağırel and Timur Soykan
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş has reacted to the dawn operation that led to the detention of journalists Murat Ağırel and Timur Soykan on charges of threats and blackmail.
Journalists Timur Soykan and Murat Ağırel were taken into custody this morning on charges of threats and blackmail.
Following searches conducted at the homes of the two journalists, digital equipment was seized. Soykan and Ağırel were taken to the police station after undergoing medical examinations.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş reacted to the detention of Soykan and Ağırel.
In a post on his X account, Yavaş stated the following:
"Timur Soykan and Murat Ağırel…
Two journalists who write, question, and speak for the public's right to be informed.
Still the same style of practices; raids on their homes, detention at the crack of dawn…
Yet these are two journalists who would have come if they had been summoned to give a statement.
This does not represent a fight against crime; it represents a fight against thought, journalism, and the public's right to learn the truth."
