MHP statement on RTÜK penalties leading to screen blackouts: 'Accepted and correct decisions'
MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir has issued a statement regarding the penalties imposed by RTÜK on SZC TV, Halk TV, Tele 1, and NOW.
Özdemir stated, "The decisions taken by RTÜK against certain television channels acting in violation of the law, which were implemented today, are decisions that have been accepted by the public conscience and are correct and appropriate. Broadcasting activities cannot be carried out with an understanding that goes beyond partisanship; that praises crime and criminals, incites the public to hatred and hostility, and is filled with all kinds of false information and slander along this path."
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has rained down penalties on SZC TV, Halk TV, Tele 1, and NOW for live broadcasting the protest actions that began with the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and intensified with his arrest, as well as the rallies organized by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel within this scope. RTÜK member İlhan Taşcı announced the decisions, which were taken by majority vote, on his social media account with the words, "Broadcasting the Özgür Özel rally live has been considered a crime."
Harsh reaction from RTÜK member Tuncay Keser to RTÜK's demand for licenses for YouTube channels: It is unlawful, disproportionate, and constitutes a severe attack.
MHP member Özdemir's statement on RTÜK:
"The decisions taken by RTÜK against certain television channels acting in violation of the law, which were implemented today, are decisions that have been accepted by the public conscience and are correct and appropriate. Broadcasting activities cannot be carried out with an understanding that goes beyond partisanship; that praises crime and criminals, incites the public to hatred and hostility, and is filled with all kinds of false information and slander along this path.
In addition to this, it has not escaped notice that some organizations and individuals broadcasting, especially via the internet and social media in recent days, have been persistently requesting financial support from their followers. What has happened that these so-called broadcasting organizations and names are now asking for financial support from the public?
It is not a coincidence that the circles in question, which operate in our country, have declared that they are experiencing financial difficulties immediately after the new US government cut off the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funds. Therefore, it will soon become clear that those who have started or will start aid campaigns in their own capacity and for their own interests by presenting financial justifications among the names and broadcasters operating in Turkey have been conducting their activities with US-sourced funds until now."
