Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made a press statement regarding teacher appointments. Following the cabinet meeting, President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had stated that Minister Tekin would make an announcement regarding the appointments.

Highlights from Tekin's speech are as follows:

"We have reached an agreement with our Minister of Finance on the appointment of 20 thousand teachers. All of the nearly 130 branches are equally important to me. We made an adjustment regarding the distribution based on need, without looking at the branch names.

3 thousand 263 teachers will be appointed for primary school teaching, 2 thousand 499 for special education teaching, 1 thousand 597 for guidance counseling, 1 thousand 594 for religious culture and moral knowledge, and 968 for English.

Our General Directorate of Personnel will announce the calendar. I had stated that the trial lesson is important in teacher appointments. A process will take place in which none of our colleagues' rights are violated.

According to the legal regulation, appointments are carried out with the interview grade. We will have the KPSS score and the interview grade at a 50-50 ratio.

WHAT DID TEACHERS WANT IN ULUS?

Teachers awaiting appointment had gathered in front of the Atatürk statue in Ulus, Ankara. Canan, a physics teacher awaiting appointment, had said, "We reiterate our demand for a record 68 thousand teacher appointments without interviews using 2023 KPSS scores. There is no obstacle for our state, which appointed 45 thousand teachers despite the financial burden that arose even during the earthquake, to complete this number to 100 thousand."
