Minister Tekin responds to controversial 'secularism' remarks: 'I did not start the debate'
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin has made statements regarding the 'secularism' debate between himself and the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Stating that he did not initiate the debate, Minister Tekin said, "CHP deputies criticized the Turkey Century Education Model over secularism during the parliamentary budget committee meeting; I responded to those criticisms in that speech. I did not start the secularism debate."
Minister of National Education Tekin made statements to Kübra Par from tv100 regarding the 'secularism' debate between himself and the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Par stated on the live broadcast, "He had spoken about the CHP turning mosques into stables regarding secularism, and I had criticized him by commenting on this. I had asked what the need was for a secularism polemic with the CHP now, when there are so many pressing problems in education. Mr. Yusuf Tekin called me at 9 a.m.," sharing Minister Tekin's explanation.

Stating that they did not initiate the debate, Minister Tekin included the following remarks: "With the Turkey Century Education Model, we have developed a model in line with the universal understanding of secularism that guarantees the rights of all minority groups. CHP deputies criticized the Turkey Century Education Model over secularism during the parliamentary budget committee meeting; I responded to those criticisms in that speech. I did not start the secularism debate."
