Murat Çalık taken away in handcuffs after biopsy
Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık was taken from the prison where he is being held in İzmir to a hospital for a neck biopsy, and was returned in handcuffs. This situation has drawn reactions from citizens.
The health problems of Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested on March 23 as part of operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, continue. While Çalık, who is being held at the İzmir Closed Penal Execution Institution, continues to remain in prison despite medical reports, he most recently underwent a biopsy on his neck. The sample taken was sent to pathology, and Çalık was transferred back to prison.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, a citizen who saw Çalık at the hospital said, "I saw Murat Çalık at Katip Çelebi University Hospital with his hands handcuffed, surrounded by many gendarmes. His brother was trying to catch up. Seeing him handcuffed like a terrorist among so many patients broke our hearts; we watched this situation in tears. Unjust and unlawful arrests are a form of torture. As a retired judge, I believe that a part of the internship for judges and prosecutors should definitely be spent in prison so they can reflect on what they are signing."
