Nagehan Alçı's take on Ahmet Özer: 'Just when we thought we were on the eve of a new process'

HaberTürk columnist Nagehan Alçı, known for her proximity to the government, questioned the arrest of CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, asking: "Just when we thought we were on the eve of a new process, just when President Erdoğan had thanked Özgür Özel from the podium, and just when the political parties representing 90 percent of society had agreed for the first time on solving this burning issue, why does everything suddenly turn into a scene of chaos?"

Nagehan Alçı's take on Ahmet Özer: 'Just when we thought we were on the eve of a new process'

CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer's arrest on the grounds of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization" has dominated the agenda.

HaberTürk columnist Nagehan Alçı, known for her proximity to the government, wrote in her column titled 'Black and White' that after praising AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, she could not help but ask "Why?" regarding Ahmet Özer's arrest.

Following MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's handshake with DEM Party deputies and his call regarding terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, Alçı, who praised the speech in which Erdoğan also expressed appreciation for CHP leader Özgür Özel, asked, "Why the operation against Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer now?"

In her column, where she referred to Erdoğan's speech at the parliamentary group meeting, Alçı stated, "Why such a detention before a speech by President Erdoğan that Kurdish citizens would listen to with tears in their eyes?"

"Whatever the background, such a development cannot, of course, escape the shadow of political motives," said Alçı, adding the following:

"Just when we thought we were on the eve of a new process, just when President Erdoğan had thanked Özgür Özel from the podium, and just when the political parties representing 90 percent of society had agreed for the first time on solving this burning issue, why does everything suddenly turn into a scene of chaos? This operation has both put the DEM Party, which is expected to play an important role if a new process is to begin, in a very difficult position, and caused the CHP to return to a harsh, polarizing language."

The relevant section of Alçı's column is as follows:

"Why the operation against Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer now?

Just when we thought we were on the eve of a new process, just when President Erdoğan had thanked Özgür Özel from the podium, and just when the political parties representing 90 percent of society had agreed for the first time on solving this burning issue, why does everything suddenly turn into a scene of chaos?
