New operation in Ankara ahead of NATO Summit: 46 people detained

As security measures are being increased ahead of the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, a new operation has been carried out in the capital. 46 people were detained as part of "Operation Turquoise," conducted under the coordination of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Simultaneous raids were carried out across the city with the participation of the Provincial Security Directorate's Public Order Branch and relevant police units. It was reported that the operations were directed at addresses identified as a result of technical and physical surveillance.

It was stated that police units launched the operation targeting individuals identified as having made armed posts on social media, those assessed to be linked to various armed incidents, and those with numerous prior criminal records, as part of the fight against armed crimes.

Criminal evidence seized during searches at the addresses was confiscated. It was noted that the processing of the detained suspects at the police station is ongoing.

It was stated that not only raids targeting suspects but also security measures across the city are continuing as part of Operation Turquoise. It was noted that security perimeters established in NATO mission areas have been expanded, and teams are working on a 24-hour basis at strategic points.
