Oil drilling rig collapses on Mount Gabar: 2 of 3 workers rescued

A drilling rig belonging to TPAO has collapsed on Mount Gabar. According to initial reports, 3 workers were trapped under the rubble of the drilling rig that collapsed at the Martyr Aybüke Yalçın oil exploration site.

AFAD, fire department teams, medical personnel, and security forces were dispatched to the scene to rescue the workers trapped under the debris.

It was learned that Şırnak Governor Cevdet Atay and TPAO Şırnak Regional Manager Oğuz Şahin also went to the scene to oversee the operations.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE: 2 OF 3 WORKERS RESCUED

The Şırnak Governor's Office reported that 2 of the 3 workers trapped under the wreckage following the collapse of the drilling rig at the Mount Gabar Martyr Aybüke Yalçın oil exploration site have been rescued.

In the statement made by the Governor's Office, it was stated: "Our Governor Cevdet Atay is on-site monitoring the rescue efforts for the workers trapped under the wreckage following the collapse of an oil drilling rig at the Martyr Aybüke Yalçın No. 27 oil field on Mount Gabar. AFAD, UMKE, fire department, TPİC, and TPAO expert teams, along with our Gendarmerie units, immediately arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. As a result of the efforts, 2 of the 3 workers trapped under the wreckage were rescued with injuries; one of our workers was transported to the hospital by helicopter, and the transfer procedures for the other rescued worker to the hospital have begun. Our efforts to rescue the other worker trapped under the wreckage are ongoing."

SAD NEWS ARRIVED

The Şırnak Governor's Office reported that an engineer lost their life in the accident, which occurred due to the collapse of the concrete floor at the drilling rig on Mount Gabar.

In the written statement from the Governor's Office, it was said: "A work accident occurred due to the collapse of the concrete floor at a drilling rig operating at the ŞAY field, which is affiliated with the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) Şırnak Regional Directorate. Drilling worker Furkan Tatar, who was trapped under the rig wreckage, was rescued immediately after the accident and transported to the hospital by helicopter. One engineer lost their life in the accident. A worker who was rescued with minor injuries from the accident was also transferred to Cizre State Hospital. An investigation into the incident has been initiated. We wish God's mercy upon our deceased engineer, and patience and condolences to their family, and we wish a speedy recovery to our injured."
