Pervin Buldan backtracks on controversial remarks: 'Taken out of context'
DEM Party Imrali Delegation member Pervin Buldan has backtracked on her remarks that drew public backlash, in which she stated, "Öcalan is uncomfortable with the language used by the media; comments against the process are the government's issue because the media is in the hands of the AKP!" Claiming her statement was taken out of context, Buldan said, "I am open to criticism, but I am against lynching; it is very wrong."
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli is the architect of the new reconciliation process being conducted with the DEM Party and terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, which the government has named Terror-Free Turkey, and the commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) continues its work.
DEM Party Imrali Delegation member Pervin Buldan stated in a recent announcement that the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, is very uncomfortable with the language used across the media. Stating that the terrorist leader has serious criticisms, Buldan implicitly called for government intervention by saying, "It is in the government's hands to remove these."
NEW STATEMENT FROM PERVIN BULDAN: I AM VERY SAD
Buldan made a new statement following the public backlash against her words. Backtracking on her remarks, Buldan noted the following in her statement to Hilal Köylü:
"I am very, very sad. The words I said were taken out of context. I am open to criticism, but I am against lynching; it is very wrong. I said I want to turn our language into a language of peace, it was taken out of context. I have worked very hard for press freedom. I would never want the press to be silenced, would I? I would not say let the press be silenced. I want to call for us to build a language of peace; I never want the media to be silent, please let us grow peace. I would not say everyone should speak like this or like that..."
