The Kılıçdaroğlu detail in President Erdoğan's 'new constitution' calculations: The 400-MP math discussed in political circles

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's potential return to the CHP chairmanship and the calculations by figures close to him regarding parliamentary balances, AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan's candidacy, and the 400-MP threshold required for a new constitutional referendum have sparked debate in political circles.

At the center of the development is the parliamentary arithmetic and the potential position of the group of MPs close to Kılıçdaroğlu.

AKP: 275 MHP: 46 HÜDAPAR: 4 DEM PARTY: 56 DBP: 2

NUMBER OF MPS CLOSE TO KILIÇDAROĞLU: 27

SCENARIO WITHOUT A REFERENDUM

According to a report by İklim Öngel from Cumhuriyet, while the convention tension between the Kılıçdaroğlu administration and the current party management continues within the CHP, the new constitution preparations that have long been on the AKP's agenda have also become a subject of debate once again.

According to the current Constitution, constitutional amendment proposals require the support of at least 360 MPs in Parliament to be taken to a referendum. For a proposal to be accepted directly and pass without a referendum, a 'yes' vote from 400 MPs is required.

WHAT IS THE CURRENT MP DISTRIBUTION?

The People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) is united on the constitutional amendment that must be passed for Erdoğan to be a candidate once more.

The possibility that the DEM Party, which reacted to the operations against the CHP and announced its support for Özel following the nullity decision, might say 'yes' to the new constitution proposal due to the ongoing process is also being discussed in Ankara.

In a scenario that includes the DEM Party, the number required for Erdoğan is only 17 MPs.

Following the nullity decision, 111 CHP MPs had called for a convention.

Taking this number into account, it is pointed out that there are at most 27 MPs on Kılıçdaroğlu's side.
