Proposal to 'investigate the attack on Özgür Özel' rejected by AKP and MHP votes
The motion submitted by the CHP to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to investigate every aspect of the physical attack on Özgür Özel was rejected by the votes of AKP and MHP deputies.
CHP İzmir Deputy Murat Bakan stated, "Today, the hidden hand behind this attack is not just a perpetrator, but the system and the climate itself that encourages and directs them."
Stating that the attack was planned and carried out with direction, CHP İzmir Deputy Murat Bakan spoke in the General Assembly as follows:
"This attack is not a coincidence, nor is it a simple security lapse; it is an organized, planned act with direct political significance.
It is a trial aimed at measuring who can push the boundaries of the political power, which reflexes will develop, who will remain silent, and who will resist; and this trial was carried out directly through the CHP leader in the heart of Istanbul.
This is neither the first nor an isolated incident. In a place and time where first-degree security measures should have been taken, the MIT, the Police, and the Gendarmerie should have worked in coordination; however, a scoundrel who had murdered his own 2 children entered the area by bypassing all security protocols without encountering any obstacles."
