Reactions to Murat Çalık within AKP are growing in waves: He should be tried without arrest
AKP Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç stated that Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık should be tried without arrest due to his health condition.
AKP's Genç emphasized in his assessment of the matter that not only the legal but also the conscientious dimension must be taken into account.
Speaking at a press conference held in Trabzon, Genç used the following expressions:

"HE SHOULD BE TRIED WITHOUT ARREST"
“Our mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık is our fellow townsman, from Maçka. I have known him since his childhood. He had suffered a serious illness in the past, and now he is struggling with a similar situation.
I am also expressing this with my identity as a jurist: No verdict has been reached about him yet, and his trial is ongoing. Even if he had been convicted, I believe that considering his current health condition, he should be tried without arrest. Because law is not just about statutes; it must also satisfy consciences.
I hope that the forensic medicine process will be completed quickly, and while the trial continues without arrest on one hand, our mayor will find healing on the other. I convey my best wishes for a speedy recovery to him.”
