Seçil Erzan and Dilan Polat in the same cell: ‘The murderer ruined my mental health’

Two high-profile figures, Dilan Polat and Seçil Erzan, have been placed in the same cell. 

According to a report by Özge Eğrikar from Hürriyet; Seçil Erzan and Dilan Polat, both held at Silivri Prison, submitted petitions requesting to share the same cell. 

The request was granted, and Seçil Erzan’s lawyer, Bülent Aybirdi, stated, “They chat and share their troubles together. Staying in the same cell has been very good for both parties.”

ERZAN AND CANDAN’S CELLS HAD BEEN SEPARATED

Former bank manager Seçil Erzan was arrested due to the high-interest foreign currency fund fraud case known publicly as the Fatih Terim Fund. 

Erzan, who did not want to stay in a single-person cell, had been placed in the same cell as social media influencers Nihal and Bahar Candan, who were arrested for “fraud” and “money laundering.” Following the release of Nihal Candan due to health issues, it was alleged that Bahar Candan, whose mental health had deteriorated, had argued with Seçil Erzan. Consequently, the cells of Seçil Erzan and Bahar Candan were separated.

FEAR OF RABIA ÇATAKLI

Social media influencer Dilan Polat had been held for 7 months at the Marmara Closed Penal Institution for crimes including “money laundering,” “illegal betting,” “establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes,” and “violating the Tax Procedure Law.” Dilan Polat, who was transferred to Bakırköy Psychiatric Hospital in recent months due to psychological issues, had previously been placed in the same cell as Rabia Çataklı, who had brutally murdered her grandmother and mother. Unable to sleep at night due to fear, Dilan Polat had submitted a petition to the prison administration requesting to stay in the same cell as her sister, Sıla Doğu. Her request was accepted, and Dilan Polat was sent back to the Marmara Closed Penal Institution in Silivri and placed in the same cell as her sister.

BOTH HAD BEEN LEFT ALONE

Seçil Erzan was moved to a single-person cell after her cell with Bahar Candan was separated. Dilan Polat was also left alone in her cell after her sister, Sıla Doğu, was released on June 14. Seçil Erzan and Dilan Polat submitted petitions to the prison administration stating that they wanted to stay in the same cell together. The prison administration accepted this request from Polat and Erzan and placed them in the same cell.

'THERE ARE NO ISSUES BETWEEN THEM'

Seçil Erzan’s lawyer, Bülent Aybirdi, made the following statement regarding the matter:

“My client and Dilan Polat have been staying in the same cell for about a week, since before the holiday break. When Dilan Polat was left alone after her sister was released, they both submitted petitions to the prison administration stating that they wanted to stay in the same room. Their request was found appropriate. My client is pleased to be staying in the same room as Dilan Polat. Her morale is quite good. There are no issues between them and Dilan Polat. This situation has been very good for both of them. They spend time together, chat, and share their troubles. My client is generally preparing notes in prison for the upcoming hearing. She asks for books to read.”

THEIR CELLS WERE ADJACENT

The cells of Seçil Erzan and Dilan Polat were adjacent. They would greet each other in the courtyard where they went for fresh air and during family visitation days. Since neither of them wanted to remain alone in their cells, they wanted to stay together. They submitted petitions to the prison administration stating that they wanted to stay in the same cell. The prison administration accepted this request from Seçil Erzan and Dilan Polat and placed them in the same cell.
