In Antalya, a mother who put her 3-month-old baby to sleep and left her in the care of her family to attend a university exam lost her baby in a house fire. The mother was calmed down with great difficulty by her tearful relatives and neighbors.
The fire broke out at around 10:30 AM in an apartment on the top floor of a 4-story building on 2799 Street in the Kızılarık Neighborhood of Muratpaşa district.
According to the information obtained, the mother, Şeval Çalı, who is a student at Akdeniz University Faculty of Theology, left the house with her father to attend an exam after putting her 3-month-old baby, named Meva, to sleep.
At that time, a fire allegedly broke out in the house as a result of an electric heater tipping over.
The grandmother and uncle who were in the house tried to get the 3-month-old baby out of the bedroom but could not enter due to the flames.
Following the report, numerous fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the area. While the fire department teams that arrived at the address extinguished and brought the fire under control, medical teams determined that the tiny baby had lost her life.
MOTHER SUFFERED A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN
Upon returning home, Şeval Çalı suffered a nervous breakdown when she learned that there had been a fire in her home and that her baby had lost her life.
The mother, who collapsed to the ground, was comforted by her relatives and neighbors. Medical teams provided initial intervention to the mother, who had fainted.
The lifeless body of little Meva was taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute morgue in a small coffin after the prosecutor's examination and the work of the crime scene investigation teams.
As the body was being taken away, the grieving mother wanted to get into the funeral vehicle.
Serkan Gezinci, who entered the house to try to save the baby when the fire started, said, “They said there was a baby inside. We tried to go in and save her, but the flames had engulfed everything.”
While it is assessed that the fire started from an electric heater according to initial findings, an investigation into the incident has been launched.
