Statement from CHP regarding the process concerning the lieutenants

CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu stated regarding the file concerning the lieutenants facing dismissal and three administrative personnel, "We sincerely believe that the generals and officers on the High Disciplinary Board will make their evaluations on this matter in accordance with the spirit of military service, military honor, the spirit of camaraderie, and most importantly, the fundamental values of law, and we are awaiting positive results."

The dismissal file concerning the lieutenants who chanted the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" after crossing swords and reciting the officer's oath at the graduation ceremony of the Military Academy affiliated with the National Defense University (MSÜ) will be reviewed on January 16.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of National Defense, Yankı Bağcıoğlu, made statements regarding the investigation into the lieutenants.

Attending a press conference titled 'Don't Touch My Lieutenant' held in İzmir with the participation of retired military personnel, Bağcıoğlu said they learned that the Land Forces Command High Disciplinary Board will evaluate the status of 5 lieutenants on Thursday, January 16, and that the Ministry of National Defense High Disciplinary Board will address the status of three administrative personnel on the same day at the same time.

Bağcıoğlu said, "The lawyers have legally presented all the evidence, all the evaluations, all the findings, and the discoveries of this process. We want to believe that this process will be resolved in a way that is consistent with justice, fairness, and the law. We believe it. We sincerely believe that the generals and officers on the High Disciplinary Board will make their evaluations on this matter in accordance with the spirit of military service, military honor, the spirit of camaraderie, and most importantly, the fundamental values of law, and we are awaiting positive results."

"THE TAF AND ATATÜRK ARE APOLITICAL FOR US"

Stating that they have viewed the issue as apolitical from the very beginning of the process, Bağcıoğlu continued as follows:

"If the Turkish Armed Forces and Atatürk are involved, this is apolitical for us. Even though some try to link this to politics and dilute this process with baseless allegations, we have kept this issue outside of politics. As you have seen so far, since the beginning of the process, many statements have been made by politicians, journalists, and social media trolls aimed at influencing justice and the decision-making mechanism of the Turkish Armed Forces. We have stayed out of this. For example, there were even those who wanted the lieutenants to be hanged. Disgraceful attacks were made on social media against the lieutenants, especially female lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu, but no ex officio investigation was launched into any of them."

Yankı Bağcıoğlu stated that retired personnel of the Turkish Armed Forces and patriotic citizens held a press conference here to show their support, and thanked them for their support.

"STATEMENTS REMINISCENT OF THE FETÖ ERA..."

Emphasizing that the history of the Land Forces Command, one of the most deep-rooted armies in the world, dates back to 209 BC, Bağcıoğlu said that the debate regarding the lieutenants should now end and that the lieutenants should continue their preparatory training within the scope of the duties they will undertake in northern Iraq and Syria.

CHP Deputy Chairman Bağcıoğlu said, "We have stated that the Turkish Armed Forces should not be worn down by storms in a teacup like this. But some politicians, some social media trolls, and some journalists have caused it to reach this point with their baseless allegations and statements reminiscent of the past, such as 'junta lieutenants,' and statements reminiscent of the FETÖ era. It is truly sad."
