Statement on reports that the 10% tolerance on speed limits has been abolished: It continues

The Ministry of Interior has issued a statement regarding claims about the comprehensive changes to traffic fines that will be submitted to the TBMM this week.

The Ministry denied the claims that the '10% tolerance margin' has been abolished.

Various claims had been made regarding a new regulation on traffic fines to be discussed in the TBMM this week. An official statement has been issued regarding the claims that the 10% tolerance margin for speeding fines would be abolished with the regulation. 

The Ministry of Interior responded to the claims made about the changes in traffic fines in a post on its social media account.

"The news and claims appearing on some social media accounts based on the draft amendment to the Highway Traffic Law, stating that 'the 10% tolerance margin granted to drivers for radar fines has been abolished and that drivers who exceed the speed limit by even 1 km/h will be fined,' DO NOT REFLECT THE TRUTH.

In the draft law, instead of a proportional percentage increase for speeding fines, a tiered numerical increase and a distinction between inside and outside residential areas have been made.

In this context;

A 10% tolerance is applied to the 50 km/h speed limit in residential areas, and the first-tier fine is issued starting from 56 km/h. In the newly made regulation, the first-tier fine in residential areas also starts from 56 km/h.

Currently, in the existing legislation, a 10% tolerance is applied to the 90 km/h speed limit on two-way highways outside residential areas. In the newly made regulation, a 10 km/h tolerance is also provided for the first-tier speeding fine on two-way highways outside residential areas.

As a result, the FIRST EXCEEDANCE tolerance application of 5 km/h within residential areas and 10 km/h outside residential areas regarding speed CONTINUES.
