Statement on stray animals from Numan Kurtulmuş
Speaking about the draft law prepared by the AKP that envisions the euthanasia of stray animals, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş stated that the Parliament must make a decision quickly.
Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş spoke about the draft law that envisions the euthanasia (killing) of stray animals.
Stating that there are more than 4 million stray animals across the country, Kurtulmuş said, "When the number is this high, we see that the issue becomes even more difficult in terms of both human resources and financial resources for dealing with it."
Speaking to Milliyet columnist Abdullah Karakuş, Numan Kurtulmuş stated that the Parliament must make a decision quickly and said the following:
"It presents a serious problem such as the safety of our cities, just as it creates a responsibility regarding animal rights. There is no place in the world with this many uncontrolled stray animals. Here, a reasonable result must emerge rapidly, and everyone must mobilize to prevent this issue. We are no longer at a point where it can be neglected. You see the images. We need to remove the situation where it causes harm to our citizens. The Parliament must make its decision on this matter rapidly, and the implementation must be carried out without any shortcomings.”
