Suspect's statement in Aynur Kanbur murder case obtained: I threw it into the Bosphorus
Bülent G., the suspect who confessed to the murder of Aynur Kanbur, who lost her life in an armed attack in front of her home in Şişli, Istanbul, on March 24, 2016, stated in his testimony that he boarded a boat and threw the unlicensed pistol he used in the incident into the Bosphorus.
Under the coordination of the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department, established upon the instructions of Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office re-examined the file.
Teams reviewing public transportation and Istanbulkart movements from the day of the incident retrospectively determined that the suspect was Bülent G., who had taken the metrobus from Avcılar to Mecidiyeköy.
The suspect, who was placed under surveillance, was found to have turned off his phone before and after the incident and was linked to other relatives, F.K., S.K., and Y.K., whose HTS records had previously been examined due to allegations that the victim had been threatened.
"I made her open the door by saying I was a courier"
Confessing during his interrogation at the police station that he committed the murder alone, Bülent G. said, "On the day of the incident, I left my house in Avcılar and came to Mecidiyeköy by metrobus. Because the weather was rainy and cold, I had a hat and a hooded jacket on. I went to Aynur Kanbur's residence in Fulya and rang the bell.
When she asked 'Who is it?' through the megaphone, I introduced myself as a courier, saying 'You have a package.' She thought I was a courier and opened the building door. When the door opened, I headed to the apartment on the ground floor; the door was open. She didn't recognize me at first because of the hood and hat I was wearing.
Referring to our past arguments, I said to her, 'You have damaged our family's reputation; you are not aware of what kind of family you are a member of. You are making our uncle Şevki turn in his grave; you have stained our family name.' As a family member, I could not accept her working as a belly dancer. When Aynur raised her voice and walked towards me with insults, saying 'What are you interfering with, no one can interfere with me,' I pulled the 9 mm handmade pistol from my waist and fired 3-4 shots at her torso," he said.
"I threw the murder weapon into the Bosphorus"
The suspect stated that after the incident, he went on foot to Beşiktaş Ihlamurdere Street, and from there, he took a bus via Barbaros Boulevard to the restaurant where he worked in Rumelihisarı. The suspect confessed that a few days later, he boarded a boat making the Emirgan-Kanlıca run and dropped the unlicensed pistol he used in the murder into the sea in the middle of the Bosphorus.
Bülent G. claimed that the other detained relatives, F.K., S.K., and Y.K., had no involvement in or incitement of the incident, and that a land dispute between them was unrelated to this event. The processing of the suspects at the police station continues in a multi-faceted manner.
