A sentence like a reward for former PM Tansu Çiller's son Mert Çiller for violence against women!

A verdict has been reached in the case where Mert Çiller, the son of former Prime Minister Tansu Çiller, was accused of committing violence against his wife, Zeynep Çiller.

Following the investigation, a lawsuit was filed against Mert Çiller for the crimes of 'intentional injury', 'insult' and 'threatening'.

A series of photographs documenting the violence Zeynep Çiller was subjected to were also included in the case file.

A report obtained from the Council of Forensic Medicine also revealed that Zeynep Çiller was subjected to severe violence.

In the petitions submitted to the file, it was noted that Mert Çiller slammed his wife against the walls. In the petition, it was also alleged that Zeynep Çiller, who suffered violence from her husband, was threatened by Tansu Çiller with her children.

CONVERTED TO A JUDICIAL FINE

According to the report by Dinçer Gökçe from Halk TV, the verdict in the case heard at the Istanbul 49th Criminal Court of First Instance was reached in recent days. The court converted the short-term prison sentence it gave to Mert Çiller for the crime of 'intentional injury' against his wife into a judicial fine of 4,500 Turkish Liras.

The announcement of the verdict for this sentence was deferred. The court sentenced Mert Çiller to 6 months and 7 days in prison for the crime of 'threatening'. A decision was also made to defer the announcement of the verdict for this sentence as well.

An appeal was filed against the aforementioned decision before the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice. When we reached Zeynep Çiller's lawyers by phone regarding the decision, they stated that they could not comment at this stage. There was no response to our request for comment from Mert Çiller's lawyer. The divorce case filed by Zeynep Çiller against her husband is still ongoing.
