Traffic ban for heavy vehicles in 6 provinces: To last 2 days
The General Directorate of Highways (KGM) has imposed a ban on heavy vehicles entering traffic in 6 provinces due to heavy snowfall and icing.
As heavy snowfall continues to intensify across Turkey, the KGM has issued a ban on the use of heavy vehicles to ensure traffic safety.
Heavy vehicles have been banned from entering traffic on certain highways and state roads in Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, and Ankara.
It was announced that the ban will be in effect for 2 days. Officials stated that the ban could be extended depending on weather conditions.
The KGM statement included the following remarks:
According to forecasts by the General Directorate of Meteorology, an orange (dangerous) meteorological warning has been issued for our provinces of Kocaeli, Sakarya, and Düzce, and a yellow (less dangerous) code warning for our provinces of Istanbul, Bolu, and Karabük, starting from the afternoon of Friday, February 21.
''Due to weather conditions expected to continue until Sunday afternoon, in order to prevent disruptions in traffic flow on critical road sections, for two days from 13:00 on Friday, February 21 (today) to 13:00 on Sunday, February 23; heavy vehicles such as trucks, tractor-trailers, and tankers (excluding vehicles that must not experience disruptions in the supply process) will not be permitted to use the D-100 and D-750 State Roads and the TEM Northern Marmara Motorways, covering the provinces of Istanbul, Kocaeli, Düzce, Bolu, and Ankara. During this period, it is important for drivers to obey traffic signs and signals and to prefer alternative routes.''
