Turkish journalist detained in Saudi Arabia returns home

Turkish journalist Kurtuluş Demirbaş, who was held in custody in Saudi Arabia and released following Turkey's diplomatic efforts, is returning to Turkey today.

According to information obtained from diplomatic sources, Demirbaş, who was detained in the Saudi Arabian city of Taif and released after Turkey's interventions, will return to the country today.

It is expected that Demirbaş will first travel to Istanbul today and then proceed to Ankara.

HE HAD GONE TO COVER THE U19 MATCH

It had been reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested information from Saudi Arabian authorities regarding the situation of Turkish journalist Demirbaş, who was reported to have been detained in Saudi Arabia.

The situation of journalist Demirbaş, who had traveled to Saudi Arabia on assignment to cover U19 football matches, was brought to the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the evening of July 8.

It was noted that Turkey's Consul General in Jeddah, Mustafa Ünal, would visit Demirbaş at the location where he was being held.

Demirbaş was released from the detention center in Taif as a result of the initiatives taken by Turkish authorities.
