Unbelievable scandal at ÖSYM: Preferences secretly changed, students victimized

Journalist İsmail Saymaz, in his article titled "Who is the hand that changed the university preferences?" on Halk TV, brought up a striking allegation regarding the unauthorized alteration of some students' university preferences by breaching the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) system.

According to Saymaz, a student named C.Ş. living in İzmir, who dreamed of attending medical school, discovered that their preference list had been changed without permission to include "elderly care" programs at private universities. The family immediately went to the police station to file a complaint, followed by applications to CİMER, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and ÖSYM.

An investigation conducted following the application by C.Ş.'s family revealed that at least six other students were victimized in a similar manner during the same period. It was determined that some of the preferences were accessed and tampered with from the same IP address.

It was learned that while some of the victimized students' preferences were completely deleted, others had their lists replaced with paid programs at private universities. The families emphasized that there is a serious security vulnerability in the system.

The students' parents criticized ÖSYM for a "lack of information" and "failure to implement two-factor authentication." The families are demanding that the institution both rectify the grievances and increase the security of the system.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. In his article, Saymaz addressed ÖSYM, stating, "Whoever the hand is that is darkening the future of these young people, they must be handcuffed."
