Verbal clash in Parliament between AKP and DEM: 'Finger-wagging' dispute

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder. In his opening remarks regarding the agenda, Önder first gave the floor to three MPs for off-agenda speeches.

CHP Giresun MP Elvan Işık Gezmiş took the floor and, wearing her white coat, explained the problems experienced in the pharmaceutical and pharmacy sector.

Celebrating May 14 Pharmacy Day, Gezmiş stated that the policies implemented under the Health Transformation Program have driven both pharmacists and patients to desperation. Noting that the state no longer covers even half the cost of children's fever-reducing syrup, Gezmiş stated that the preventive health allowance remains insufficient.

CANCELLED THEIR REQUESTS

During Gezmiş's speech, Deputy Speaker Önder issued warnings to AKP MPs who had gathered to renew the list of those wishing to speak following the noise in the General Assembly hall.

Önder announced that he had cancelled the requests of the MPs who had logged into the system to speak and requested that they log in again.

After CHP's Gezmiş finished her speech, AKP İzmir MP Mehmet Ali Çelebi went to Önder and said, "What you did was arbitrary," objecting to the situation. A dispute then broke out between the two.

SUSPENDED THE SESSION

Önder told Çelebi, "Do not wag your finger at me. Who are you wagging your finger at?" and announced that he was suspending the session.

During the break in the proceedings, a brief "finger-wagging" dispute also took place between DEM Party and AKP MPs.
