CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made significant statements yesterday at a mass opening event in Mersin.
Stating before the ceremony that he would have big surprises, Özel showed a red card to the government and said, "Pensioners, are you ready to keep a red card in your pockets from now on, all across Turkey, and show these red cards to the government until it leaves, as you endure these low salaries and witness this oppression?"

However, support for Özgür Özel's red card protest also came from within the party. Member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and CHP Mersin MP Ali Mahir Başarır supported the protest in question by showing the red card he pulled from his pocket during a live broadcast.
Ali Mahir Başarır used the following expressions:
“Some artists have truly saddened me with their criticisms. I am showing them a red card from here.”
