Voter registrations found in a cemetery morgue! What is happening in Şanlıurfa?

As the March 31, 2024 local elections approach, striking details regarding 'voter transfers' continue to emerge.

According to a report by Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü, it has been determined that voter registrations were made not only to abandoned buildings but also to the municipal funeral washing facility and morgue building located within a cemetery in the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa.

Following a tip-off, the gendarmerie went to the cemetery, conducted an inspection at the morgue, and determined that the addresses of 4 people who had transferred their registration to the district from elsewhere were listed as the morgue inside the Argın Neighborhood cemetery. A report was filed, and the situation was reported to the District Election Board presidency.

A citizen describing the irregularity in the Halfeti district said the following:

"The Supreme Election Council (YSK) allowed voter transfers until October 1. For example, 2,204 people registered as new voters in the Halfeti district. However, after October 1, exactly 2,139 people registered as new voters. There are serious scandals here. The Population Directorate's computer records should be examined. Because there are serious allegations that voter registrations were made after working hours using the population office's password. It was understood that while the location of Halfeti was being changed, voter registrations were also made to these locations using the numbers of public-owned lodgings such as the demolished district governor's office and courthouse.

"39 VOTER REGISTRATIONS DETECTED IN AN ABANDONED BUILDING"

Voter transfers were carried out irregularly from Siverek, Hilvan, Istanbul, Izmir, Nevşehir, in short, from all over Turkey. It was understood that there were exactly 39 voter registrations in an abandoned house. A citizen in Şanlıurfa's Seyrantepe Neighborhood wanted to apply for a neighborhood headman (muhtar) candidacy. However, he learned that his registration had been moved from the neighborhood to Halfeti. In other words, they are not even looking at electricity or water subscriptions."

“It was determined that there was a 51.3 percent increase in voters in the Çamlıdere district of Ankara.

Comparing voter lists with the previous election yielded surprising results. For example, the number of voters in the Çamlıdere district rose from 7,401 to 11,201. The second largest increase in Ankara occurred in Bala with 36.2 percent, and the third largest increase occurred in the Ayaş district with 23 percent. The number of voters in Ayaş, which had 10,007 voters, rose to 12,304, and in Bala, which had 17,512 voters, the number of voters rose to 23,854. The voter increase rate across Ankara was determined to be 4 per thousand. While a total of 229,968 voters came to Ankara from other places, 246,976 voters transferred their registrations to other cities.”

"INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS INCREASES"

CHP Mersin Deputy Gülcan Kış submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to investigate the allegations of irregular voter transportation coming from all over Turkey.

Kış stated the following in her motion:

"It has been determined that voters were transferred from different provinces and districts to empty addresses and abandoned buildings. Although 33 voter registrations were detected in an olive oil factory in our Yenişehir district, no evaluation was made regarding this objection. Registering a residence at a workplace is against the law. It is contrary to the ordinary flow of life for more than 30 voters with different surnames to be registered there. The election board rejects objections without conducting an investigation. The YSK, which is responsible for ensuring that the national will is reflected in the ballot box in a healthy manner, must show the necessary sensitivity."
