YENİ Party MP Melih Meriç targeted in knife attack: Attacker identified

Tense moments occurred in Gaziantep this evening. YENİ Party Gaziantep MP Melih Meriç was attacked with a knife by an individual whose identity was initially unknown. Medical teams were dispatched to the scene immediately following the attack.

MP Meriç was rushed to Gaziantep City Hospital after receiving initial treatment. No clear statement has been made yet regarding Meriç's health status.

ATTACKER IDENTIFIED

According to information provided by Şamil Tayyar, the person who carried out the knife attack on the MP is Şeydi Ahmet Keleş, the former CHP Oğuzeli District Chair.

According to Tayyar, Keleş had resigned and joined the YENİ Party, and he allegedly attacked the MP, whom he held responsible for not being appointed as the district chair.
