School bus fees hiked in Istanbul before schools open: Highest price revealed

With schools set to open soon, the new tariff for student bus fees in Istanbul has been determined. A 10 percent hike has been applied to bus fees for the new academic term. According to the report on NTV, with the hike, annual bus fees have exceeded 90 thousand liras, especially for long distances.

FEES EXCEED 90 THOUSAND LIRAS FOR LONG DISTANCES

According to the new tariff, the bus fee for 0-1 kilometers has risen to 39 thousand 970 liras. The annual fee for the 1-3 kilometer distance has been set at 42 thousand 804 liras.

For the longest distances, fees have risen even further. The bus fee for 21-23 kilometers has risen to 90 thousand 112 liras, and the fee for 23-25 kilometers has reached 93 thousand 610 liras.

35 PERCENT ADDITIONAL FEE FOR ATTENDANT PERSONNEL

Istanbul Chamber of Service Operators President Günhan Sınar announced that the cost of attendant personnel will also be added to bus fees in some schools.

A 35 percent addition will be made to the tariff fee for services using attendant personnel. Sınar also stated that they may request further hikes if there are increases in fuel prices in the coming period.

SERVICE OPERATORS ARGUE FEES ARE LOW

While the increase in bus fees has caused reactions from parents, service operators argue that the determined prices remain low in the face of current costs.

NO FEES CAN BE DEMANDED OUTSIDE THE TARIFF

According to the new regulation, service companies will not be able to demand fees outside the determined tariff. Parents cannot be forced to pay any fee outside the tariff even at the offer stage before a contract is made.

Bus fees can be paid in installments based on an annual or semi-annual cost. Payments can be made in cash or by credit card. During credit card payments, parents cannot be forced to make a single payment. Likewise, it cannot be demanded that the entire fee be paid in cash at once.

HOW MUCH WERE THE BUS FEES LAST YEAR?

In 2025, the annual bus fee in Istanbul was applied as 23 thousand 445 liras for the 0-1 kilometer distance and 25 thousand 110 liras for 1-3 kilometers.

During the same period, 27 thousand 135 liras were paid for 3-5 kilometers and 28 thousand 296 liras for 5-7 kilometers.
