Ali Babacan's remarks likely to anger Mehmet Şimşek: 'The only thing he does...'

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan made statements regarding the economy.

Speaking to T24, Babacan targeted AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan through Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek.

REMARKS FROM BABACAN LIKELY TO ANGER MINISTER ŞİMŞEK

Babacan's remarks about Mehmet Şimşek, "Şimşek has neither the authority nor the responsibility to carry Turkey or bring Turkey to a certain point. I mean, the only thing he is doing right now is finding money from here and there," drew attention.

"A SYSTEM WITHOUT BRAKES"

Stating that the duty of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance is to find borrowed money or collect taxes and deliver them to the Presidential Palace, Babacan continued, "We are talking about a system without brakes. That is why the budget deficit is increasing, that is why the brakes are not holding. And these tax increases are not increases that are compatible with the realities of the market."

CALLED MEHMET ŞİMŞEK 'MY BEST FRIEND'

Continuing his remarks, Babacan described Mehmet Şimşek as his 'best friend' and targeted Erdoğan, saying:

"He took my closest friend, Mr. Mehmet, and put him in charge of the economy. Is it working? Can he prevent these things? Can Mr. Şimşek prevent these things? Can he stop them? Can he say that TÜİK has been measuring inflation incorrectly until now?"
