Millions of users making contactless payments with credit cards and mobile devices have begun to experience the new limit directly during their shopping. Now, in many stores and businesses, users can complete transactions without entering a card PIN for payments of 2,500 liras and under.

This regulation aims to make it easier to manage spending items that have increased due to the impact of inflation, and to reduce waiting times at checkout counters.

Banks and payment systems across Turkey completed their infrastructure work regarding this limit change simultaneously. Thus, all POS devices have become capable of supporting the new limit. Experts emphasize that the acceleration in shopping will be particularly noticeable in sectors with high transaction volumes, such as supermarkets and gas stations.

CONTINUES TO REQUEST CARD PIN

Security practices in digital payment systems continue exactly as they were in the new period. Although the limit for contactless transactions without a PIN has been raised to 2,500 liras, POS devices continue to automatically request a card PIN for expenditures above this amount. Furthermore, to reduce risk in cases of potential card loss or theft, the system is designed to occasionally request a PIN entry at random. In this way, while ensuring that users can carry out their transactions quickly, security is not compromised.

This practice, which became valid nationwide as of January 15, provides speed and convenience in payment transactions while also placing importance on maintaining existing security standards.
