Call to economic management from Prof. Dr. Duran Bülbül: 'You will have 3 trillion in savings'

12punto columnist and economist Prof. Dr. Duran Bülbül responded to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's announcement pointing to today, where he said, "Together with our Vice President, we will announce the austerity and efficiency package."

Speaking to Gülbin Tosun on Now TV, Prof. Dr. Bülbül said, "If they just said we are going for a 10 percent restriction in budget appropriations; public investments, vehicle purchases, and leasing tenders, a saving of exactly 1 trillion 100 billion liras is possible."

Prof. Dr. Bülbül further stated, "If you were to collect the 2.2 trillion in waived taxes from those companies, you would have 3 trillion in savings all at once, and you would not have to touch the unappointed teachers and doctors who are practically fighting for survival."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced that the public austerity and measures package would be unveiled on Monday. Stating that the economic program includes a transition period, Şimşek said, "Our ultimate goal is sustainable high growth."
