Exporters had objected: 'Dry pastry' regulation made to austerity measures

The Ministry of Trade's response to objections regarding some items of the austerity measures it requested to be implemented has yielded results. The Ministry of Trade has relaxed some of the contested items while completely removing others. The requirement to serve only dry pastries instead of meals at events and the requirement to fly economy class on business trips have been lifted.

The Ministry of Trade evaluated and relaxed the austerity measures following requests from exporters. Some items in the list of austerity measures sent by the Ministry of Trade to the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) and exporters' associations had caused intense objections from the exporters' front. According to the report by Ekonomim, the Ministry of Trade re-evaluated the items in the austerity list and sent the final version to TİM and the exporters' associations.

REVISED

The letter stated, “As is known, the measures on various issues determined by our Ministry to ensure the effective, efficient, and economical use of the resources of TİM and exporters' associations and to ensure savings in expenditures were instructed by our Ministry to be implemented and strictly adhered to by TİM and exporters' associations, as per our referenced letters. As a result of a re-evaluation of our aforementioned instruction by our Ministry, it has been deemed appropriate to revise the austerity measures instruction.”

MEALS AND BUSINESS CLASS ARE BACK

The revised letter sent to TİM and exporters' associations was also met with approval by the exporters.

The removal of the particularly controversial phrase “no meals, technical equipment, or similar additional expenses shall be included, except for the serving of tea, coffee, soft drinks, dry pastries, or very small snacks at events” and the item requiring the use of economy class tickets instead of business class for travel pleased the exporters. Only one item was added to the newly revised instruction. The added item stated, “Tickets for domestic and international duty travel shall be purchased limited to the number of persons. To avoid unnecessary price increases related to flights and accommodation, reservations shall be made as early as possible, and last-minute cancellations shall be avoided.”
