Halkbank's appeal hearing in the US postponed to 2024

The case in which Halkbank is being tried as a defendant in the US Rıza Sarraf case continues at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

According to a report by VOA, Chief Judge of the court Debra Ann Livingston decided to postpone the appeal hearing, which was previously announced to be held on December 11, at the request of the prosecution. According to the postponement decision, Halkbank's appeal hearing will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in Manhattan, where the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York is located.

Judge Livingston also gave the prosecution until November 20 to file their objection to Halkbank's appeal, and gave Halkbank until January 12, 2024, to respond to the prosecution's petition.

Judge Livingston stated that the parties would be heard mutually at the hearing in February, and that the prosecution and Halkbank (HALKB) lawyers would be granted equal time for their defense and arguments. On the other hand, while the possibility of holding the hearing via the Zoom application is being evaluated, it was stated that if the hearing takes place via Zoom, the court panel and staff will be in their building in Manhattan, while Halkbank's lawyers and the prosecution will be able to participate in the hearing remotely.

Furthermore, it was reported that a meeting regarding the case file, which both Halkbank and the New York Southern District Attorney's Office officials will attend, will be held on a date to be determined before the hearing.

Halkbank's claim regarding the case is prepared in the direction that the actions related to the charges took place in Turkey, within the borders of Turkish sovereignty, and that "If this case is ultimately successful, it will weaken Halkbank's operational capability and at the same time directly harm Turkey."
