How has the minimum wage changed in which country over the last 10 years?

According to the DİSK-AR minimum wage research, the average annual change in the minimum wage in Turkey in euro terms between 2013 and 2023 was 1.6 percent. Thus, Turkey ranked last among EU countries in terms of average annual change. 

Luxembourg

As of July 2023, the highest minimum wage in euro terms is in Luxembourg at 2,508 euros. Ten years ago, the minimum wage in the country was at the 1,874 euro level. The average annual change in the minimum wage over the last 10 years was recorded at 3 percent. 

Germany

Following Luxembourg, Germany is in second place for minimum wage at 1,997 euros. Since the official minimum wage application was adopted in the country in 2015, there is no data for 2013. 

Netherlands

The current minimum wage in the Netherlands is at the 1,995 euro level. The minimum wage applied in the country 10 years ago was 1,478 euros. During this period, the average annual change was 3 percent. 

Belgium

As of July 2023, a minimum wage of 1,955 euros is applied in Belgium. Ten years ago, this figure was at the 1,502 euro level. 

Ireland

While the current minimum wage in Ireland is applied as 1,910 euros, the average annual minimum wage increase over the last 10 years was 2.7 percent. 

France

France is among the countries at the bottom of the list in Europe in terms of average annual minimum wage increase. In the country, where a minimum wage of 1,430 euros was given as of July 2013, the wage rose to 1,747 euros as of July 2023. The average increase over 10 years remained at 2 percent. 

Spain

Spain is one of the European countries that experienced above-average minimum wage growth. While the current minimum wage in the country is at the 1,260 euro level, the average annual increase over the last 10 years was 5.3 percent. 

Slovenia

Despite its small economy, the minimum wage level in Slovenia is at 1,203 euros. The average annual minimum wage increase over the last 10 years was 4.4 percent. 

Greece

Greece is among the countries that remain below the 1,000 euro threshold for the current minimum wage. The current minimum wage in Greece is 940 euros. 

Portugal

In Portugal, where the current minimum wage is applied as 887 euros, the average annual change over the last 10 years was recorded as 4.6 percent. 

Lithuania

Lithuania was one of the countries where the minimum wage increased the fastest in terms of annual average. In Lithuania, the minimum wage rose to 840 euros with an average increase of 11.2 percent over the last 10 years. 

Malta

Malta was one of the countries where the minimum wage increased the least on average over 10 years. The minimum wage in Malta, which was 703 euros in July 2013, rose to 835 euros in July 2023. 

Poland

In Poland, the minimum wage rose to the 811 euro level with an average increase of 8.2 percent over the last 10 years. 

Czechia

Czechia is also one of the countries where the increase was rapid. The minimum wage, which was 308 euros as of July 2013, rose to 729 euros in July 2023. 

Estonia

The minimum wage, which was 320 euros 10 years ago, rose to 725 euros. 

Slovakia

In Slovakia, the average annual increase over the last 10 years was 7.6 percent. The current minimum wage was recorded as 700 euros. 

Croatia

The minimum wage, which was at the 401 euro level 10 years ago, rose to the 700 euro level. 

Hungary

While the average annual increase over 10 years in Hungary was 6.5 percent, the current minimum wage was recorded as 623 euros. 

Latvia

The average annual increase in Latvia was 8.1 percent. As of July 2023, the minimum wage applied in the country is around 620 euros. 

Romania

As of the 2013-2023 period, the country with the highest average annual increase in Europe was Romania with 12.9 percent. The minimum wage, which was 179 euros in July 2013, rose to 604 euros. 

Montenegro

In Montenegro, the average annual minimum wage increase over the last 10 years was 6.3 percent. 

Turkey

While the average annual minimum wage increase in Turkey in euro terms over the last 10 years was 1.6 percent, this growth rate was recorded as the lowest increase in the EU. In euro terms, the minimum wage in Turkey was 405 euros in July 2013, and it rose to 474 euros as of July 2023. 

Serbia

In Serbia, the minimum wage, which was 236 euros 10 years ago, rose to 461 euros. 

Bulgaria

In Bulgaria, the average annual minimum wage increase over the last 10 years was 9.7 percent. The minimum wage in the country is at the 399 euro level. 

Albania

In Albania, the minimum wage, which was 156 euros 10 years ago, rose to 375 euros. 

North Macedonia

The minimum wage, which was applied as 199 euros as of July 2013 in North Macedonia, rose to 359 euros as of July 2023.
