Minister Mehmet Şimşek's remarks recall former minister Berat Albayrak: To the 60s next month, to the 50s the month after

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek made a statement regarding inflation expectations during his presentation at the TÜSİAD High Advisory Council meeting.

Minister Mehmet Şimşek said, "At this point, we are implementing a consistent disinflation program. It takes time for monetary policy to be positioned strongly. We are at the beginning of the disinflation period. Next month, inflation will most likely be around 60 percent, the following month around 50 percent, and the month after that, it may drop a notch below 50 percent."

Minister Şimşek's statement recalled the much-discussed words of former Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak: "March will be better than February, and April will be better than March."

Berat Albayrak had said the following at the Employment Mobilization 2019 Promotion Meeting at the TOBB Twin Towers:

"Despite a difficult year like 2018, we will continue to grow even more in 2019 with foreign direct investment figures. Capital from abroad entered as a result of both loan closures and money coming into Turkey. A strong capital inflow is expected at this point of recovery with a strong entry. Let those who wait and hold back worry. I stated this. December will be better than November, January better than December, and February better than January. We have reached a much better point than we said. March, April, and May will be periods where much better performance is displayed.

It is not clear who is behind it, like the Gezi period. The real sector and investors look at rational data. We also see this in the increase in foreign and domestic demand for interest rates. Manipulation through elections. We will look at all these figures. These are real figures. You see. February is indeed much better than January. March will be better than February, and April will be better than March.

After April, a much stronger Turkish economy will emerge. We are hopeful. Let no one have any doubt about this."
