Ministry of Trade takes action: This practice has become mandatory for jewelers
A new regulation for the jewelry sector has been published in the Official Gazette. It has become mandatory to use terms such as "synthetic" or "laboratory-grown" for precious stones produced in a laboratory environment, and it has been decided that natural and synthetic stones must be presented separately in store windows and online sales categories.
The new regulation prepared by the Ministry of Trade has been published in the Official Gazette and has entered into force. With the regulation, it has become mandatory to clearly inform consumers in the sale of precious stones produced in a laboratory environment.
NEW LABELING REQUIREMENT FOR PRODUCTS
Within the scope of the regulation amendment for the jewelry sector, precious stones produced in a laboratory environment or created through human intervention cannot be offered for sale without using specific terms.
Accordingly, at least one of the terms "synthetic," "laboratory-grown," "artificial production," or similar expressions deemed appropriate by the Ministry of Trade must be included on the products in question.
WILL BE VISIBLE IN EVERY AREA FROM LABELS TO ADVERTISING
According to the new rule, these expressions will be indicated on product labels, certificates, invoices, websites, and advertising and promotional materials in a way that consumers can easily see.
The regulation aims to make it easier to distinguish between natural precious stones and stones produced in a laboratory environment.
STORE WINDOWS AND INTERNET CATEGORIES WILL BE SEPARATED
With the regulation amendment, it has also become mandatory to separate the sales areas for synthetic and natural stones.
Accordingly, products will be displayed in different showcases and sections in stores. In online sales, synthetic stones and natural stones will be presented to the consumer under separate categories.
REGULATION HAS ENTERED INTO FORCE
The regulation published in the Official Gazette has entered into force as of the date of its publication. The inspection and monitoring of the practice will be carried out by the Ministry of Trade.
