Retiree bonus rumors as the holiday approaches: A payment equal to a salary is on the agenda
New formulas are being discussed in Ankara regarding the increase of holiday bonuses for retirees. Economist Muhammet Bayram stated that providing a total of 20,000 TL in bonuses for the two holidays to low-income retirees is on the agenda, noting that this practice might not cover all retirees.
New behind-the-scenes information has emerged regarding the bonus increase that retirees are eagerly awaiting ahead of the upcoming Ramadan Bayram. In addition to the possibility of raising the current 4,000 TL holiday bonus to 5,000 TL, the possibility of a much higher increase has been brought to the agenda.
Economist Muhammet Bayram, in his statement on TGRT Haber, announced that the option of "giving retirees a one-salary bonus" is among the alternatives being discussed in Ankara. Bayram drew attention to the living conditions of retirees with the lowest pensions in particular.
Emphasizing that the government is aware of the high cost of living, Bayram expressed that it is not considered fair for high- and low-income retirees to receive the same amount of bonus. For this reason, it was stated that a new model for social assistance and bonuses is being evaluated, and that the household income criterion is also being taken into account.
According to the proposal that has come to the agenda, one of the options is to provide a total of 20,000 TL in bonuses per year—10,000 TL each for the Ramadan and Eid al-Adha holidays—only to those receiving the lowest pension. It is planned to pay a lower amount of bonus to high-income retirees.
It was stated that the new model could include payments based on income level instead of equal bonuses for all retirees, and that detailed work on this issue is ongoing. The final decision regarding the household income-based bonus system is expected to be announced in the coming days.
