Ministry imposes 10.3 million TL fine on 8 businesses
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change conducted 389 inspections in 5 days as part of the fight against mucilage, issuing a total of 10.3 million lira in fines to 8 businesses due to operations violating environmental regulations and the discharge of polluted water.
A total of 10.3 million lira in fines has been imposed on 8 businesses causing pollution in the Sea of Marmara.
According to a written statement from the Ministry, simultaneous inspection and monitoring activities were carried out in 7 provinces as part of the 22-point Marmara Sea Action Plan, which was implemented to combat mucilage. Between January 6 and 10, 389 inspections were conducted, and administrative fines of varying amounts were applied to businesses in Tekirdağ, Yalova, and Balıkesir that caused water pollution due to operations violating environmental regulations and the discharge of polluted water.
A total fine of 4 million 346 thousand 465 lira was issued to the Water and Sewerage Administration belonging to the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality and 3 wastewater treatment plants operated by the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, which were found to be operating in violation of the procedures and principles set out in environmental legislation.
A total administrative fine of 6 million 49 thousand 136 lira was applied to an olive processing facility and a waste processing facility in Tekirdağ, a ready-mixed concrete plant in Yalova, and an organized industrial zone in Balıkesir.
Thus, a total of 10.3 million lira in fines was issued to 8 businesses. It was reported that the teams' inspections in the Marmara Basin will continue.
