Taxi meters in Istanbul have soared: They have overtaken major European cities!

Taxi fares in Istanbul have reached exorbitant levels. It has now become more expensive to travel from the airport to the city center than to fly to many European cities. With the latest hikes, taxi meter rates have multiplied, and passengers are complaining about the high prices.

EVEN SHORT DISTANCES BURN A HOLE IN YOUR POCKET

According to the report on Kanal D Ana Haber, the starting fare for yellow taxis in Istanbul has risen to 42 TL, while the short-distance minimum fare has become 135 TL. However, the biggest increase is seen in long-distance trips.

For example, the amount a passenger wanting to go from Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet must pay has reached 1700 TL. Going to Beylikdüzü costs 1900 TL, and reaching Tuzla costs a full 2900 TL!

PLANE TICKETS ARE CHEAPER THAN TAXIS!

Compared to these figures, even international flight prices remain more reasonable. It is possible to find a ticket from Sabiha Gökçen to Athens for 1891 TL. While Düsseldorf flights start at 1551 TL, a Copenhagen ticket can be purchased for 1850 TL, and a Vienna ticket for 2374 TL.

The situation is no different for domestic flights. It is possible to find plane tickets to Antalya for 1035 TL, to Ankara for 750 TL, and to İzmir for 700 TL. Moreover, even driving your own car to the airport only amounts to approximately 300 TL in fuel costs.
