Fifth wave in 'fund' investigation: Detention warrants issued for 34 people

A new wave of operations has been carried out as part of the fund investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Investigation Bureau for Money Laundering Crimes. Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that search, seizure, and detention warrants have been issued for 34 suspects within the scope of the 5th wave.

According to Gürlek's statement, the number of suspects processed within the scope of the investigations to date has risen to 217. While 56 suspects have been arrested, judicial control measures have been applied to 88 suspects.

Stating that the investigation is not limited only to existing funds and suspects, Gürlek reported that the movements in 26 stocks, which are considered to be the subject of speculative and manipulative transactions, are being examined in detail. It was noted that the transaction histories, money flows, and connections of individuals and accounts deemed to have generated extraordinary profits in a short period are also being investigated.

In a post on his social media account, Minister Gürlek stated, "Our citizens' rights will be protected, and those who manipulate the markets will be held accountable before the law." The statement indicated that legal processes will be initiated to transfer assets determined to have been obtained from crime to a fund to be established within the TMSF, in accordance with the procedures stipulated by law.

The statement did not include any information regarding AKP Deputy Chairperson Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, whose name had previously come up in discussions surrounding the investigation.
