The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an ex officio investigation has been launched into presidential candidate Attorney Prof. Dr. Osman Korkut Kanadoğlu, who spoke at the 128th Ordinary General Assembly of the Istanbul Bar Association.
According to the Prosecutor's Office statement, the investigation was initiated taking into account the content and context of the remarks made by Kanadoğlu during the general assembly held at the Haliç Congress Center on October 24-25.
It was noted that Kanadoğlu, the presidential candidate for the Lawyers' Rights Group, made criticisms regarding judicial practices in his speech.
The remarks that led to the investigation:
“I am addressing all judges and prosecutors serving on the bench: Judges who do not comply with Constitutional Court rulings, criminal judges of peace who issue arbitrary arrest warrants, we are noting you down one by one. We are monitoring your every decision. We are reporting your decisions.
If these judges and prosecutors think, 'I will not follow the law, I will torment lawyers and citizens, and I will bear no responsibility for this,' let them know that we will be holding them accountable.”
Details regarding the scope of the investigation and when Kanadoğlu's statement will be taken have not yet been shared.
