Ministry of Justice issues statement on DNA analysis in Rojin Kabaiş investigation

The Ministry of Justice has announced that biological examinations and DNA analyses were conducted on the clothing of Rojin Kabaiş as part of the ongoing investigation into her death.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, a response was provided to claims appearing in some media outlets that “no DNA samples were taken from the clothing and the necessary biological examinations were not performed by the Council of Forensic Medicine.”

According to the statement, the clothing belonging to Kabaiş was first sent to the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory, where a report regarding the biological examinations conducted there was prepared.

It was stated that the clothing was subsequently sent to the Biology Specialization Department of the Council of Forensic Medicine, and a detailed report was prepared as a result of the examinations.

The Ministry's statement included the following: “Numerous stain and swab samples were taken from different areas of the underwear, sweatshirt, and sweatpants by the Biology Specialization Department of the Council of Forensic Medicine. Visual stain examination, blood and human blood testing, menstruation-related blood examination, autosomal STR DNA analysis, and Y-STR DNA analyses were performed on these samples.”

The statement noted that numerous biological samples were taken from different parts of the clothing at both the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory and the Council of Forensic Medicine's Biology Specialization Department, and that the necessary DNA analyses were performed. The results of the DNA analyses are expected to be released to the public.
