Ata Demirer and Erkan Can star in mooring buoy promotional film

In the promotional film, Demirer and Can chat about seagrass while sailing in the Mediterranean. The duo explains the importance of the mooring buoy system by highlighting the damage caused to marine life on the seabed by uncontrolled anchoring of boats.

In his post, Minister Kurum stated, "Ata Demirer and Erkan Can dove into the blue of Fethiye. The view they saw was a completely different world hidden under the sea. Thousands of living creatures, seagrass, and a breathing ecosystem. We are preventing uncontrolled anchoring with the Mooring Buoy System and protecting life underwater."

Implemented in 17 bays in Göcek

Efforts to protect seagrass are continuing within the scope of the Zero Waste Blue Project, which is carried out under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, President of the United Nations Advisory Board of High-Level Personalities on Zero Waste, and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. In this context, the Mooring Buoy Management Systems Project was implemented by the Turkish Environment Agency. Thanks to the project, boats are enabled to tie up to fixed mooring and buoy systems instead of dropping anchors directly onto the seabed in the bays.

A total of 896 sea moorings and 876 buoys were used in 17 bays in Göcek to create mooring buoy systems capable of serving 856 boats.

Digital reservation opportunity for boat owners

Within the scope of the project's digital infrastructure, the DERİA Göcek Bay Digital Mooring Buoy Management System was also established. While offering digital reservation opportunities for boats via a mobile application, users can see the nearest mooring buoy system to them. Boat availability and mooring processes in the bays can also be tracked in a digital environment.

The system aims to direct boat owners to the nearest mooring buoy point instead of anchoring indiscriminately, thereby protecting seagrass and the underwater ecosystem.
